Ah! I am sooo tired today! But, tell you what...today was the best day in the whole trip!!
Today we decided to visit the famous Rohtang pass..where there is a 'snow point'. Now, when you hear of that, at least what I percieved was that u go up to a certain point, park your car and walk up just a lil bit to see the snow. U won't believe how wrong i was!!
The car took us up to a certain point all right..but then it was a looong trek upto the snow point. There were horses, mountain bikes and yaks to carry us up...but guess what we did?? Walked!!
Well, at least till a certain point. And that walk must be the most dangerous and exciting trek I ever undertook!.I slipped numerous times as it was just mud..brown slippery mud all the way! Oh yeah..i forgot to tell you that we had to hire special coats and gloves to protect ourselves from the cold. And it was wondourously cold! And the Wind!! OMG!..I am glad of the coats all right!
So, to get back to the trek, we slipped and slithered and did all kinds of weird things, but we managed to get to the first snow point, which actually should be called a glacier point, coz it was all hard ice.
Here, we realized that it was another 12 km to the final snow point, called the 'Beas Nala'. Now that was a bit disheartening. My mom absolutely refused to climb on the horses and the mobikes refused to take three people at a time. As we were in a fix, we did the best thing we could..go to a dhaba and drink coffee!..And lo an behold! A solution appeared in the form of a tourist Sumo ( Tata Sumo, i mean) which agreed to carry us to the beas nala. Wow, that's i always say..When in doubt..EAT! ( I use this opportunity to convey my thanx to Ratan Tata too.)
So this 'almost-broken-down' Tata Sumo took us up a perilious road flanked by walls of ice to the highest point open to the tourists. And seriously, (virtual) hats off to the drivers. They are really skilled.
As soon as we alighted in that ic desert at Beas Nala, photographers and tea-sellers and even people who rented out skis to the tourists, all circled us. First we walked around on the ice( it'
s really slipppery!), and took some photograhs of our own! And then guess what! I SKIED! I actually did! And i didn't fall! Yay! Well, i moved forward with gr8 difficulty too, but at least i moved!
After that, I climbed up this huge slope, where the ice was very deep and very soft. My stick used to go half inside with every step and i slipped about 5 times! All this for a loong slide on a tyre down the slope! Wow! Problem was: I didn't know that we had to slide down ON our backs. Not that it hurt, but after the slide, i suspected that my lower back had frozen all over!
After that, when i thought i had enough fun, my dad called me for a ride on a snow bike! Whoa! That was fast, and loads of fun! We did an entire round of the glacier and came fast down the slope! Zooom! That got my adrenalin pumping all right!
Then, at last all of us decided we had enough fun on the glacier and decided to head back. So back in the Sumo it was!
However, our adventures were far from over!
As we were heading down the slope, suddenly we came across a jam of a kind. Then we realized, an avalanche had occured further on the road. Wow! Now that's something i saw for the first time!
Now our car couldn't cross the avalanche, but few cars were waiting on the other side to carry us back. So we were stuffed in with another big group, and it was so crowded, the driver's assistant had to climb on the roof!!
Well, this new Sumo carried us to the dhaba. From there we again face a dilemna. Me and mom had no strength to walk back to our car, which was around 5km more on the normal road. So we both took a mountain bike and left Dad to trek down the hill! We thought that he'd take a lot of time..but soon after we reached the car he came walking down the slope!! Now, that was fast!
So we sat in our good old Safari again, and hunted for a place to have lunch. We stopped at a restaurant in Koti( not to confuse with the koti in hyd) and had a good lunch. Then headed back to our hotel. We reached our room around 6:30 in the evening, completely exhausted! We all had a nap for some time, before ordering tea and coffee. Soon after it was time for dinner! It was really good today! Well i came back, uploaded all the pics from the cam and now i a gonna finish writing this blog!
